In the heart of northern Istria, where the Karst edge slopes into the fertile valley of the Mirna River, one of the peninsula’s most fascinating fortresses defies time on a high rocky ridge \u2013 Petrapilosa Castle<\/strong>. Today, the ruins are mighty but well-renovated, but once an unconquerable fortress, Petrapilosa (literally translated as “Hairy Stone”) with its location above the Bra\u010dana stream still stirs the imagination of visitors. <\/p>\n\n

Why “Hairy” Castle?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Tudi po nedavni veliki obnovi so strokovnjaki na zidovih namerno pustili kak\u0161en \u0161op cvetja in trave, da grad ne bi izgubil svojega “kosmatega” zna\u010daja.<\/p>\n\n

Turbulent History: From Slavs to the Gravisi Nobles<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The castle’s strategic location was crucial even in ancient times, as it controlled traffic in the valley. The history of Petrapilosa is closely intertwined with the migrations of peoples and constant struggles for supremacy: <\/p>\n\n
